Year 8 Cooking Morning with the Royal Navy Catering Team

Our Year 8 students recently had an unforgettable cooking morning with the Royal Navy Catering Team, who hosted a thrilling Ready Steady Cook session. The event was a fantastic opportunity for the students to learn valuable culinary skills and engage in a fun and educational experience.

The morning began with an introduction from the Royal Navy chefs, who explained the importance of nutrition, teamwork, and creativity in the kitchen. The excitement in the room was palpable as the students eagerly listened and prepared for the challenge ahead.

Divided into teams, the students were given a selection of mystery ingredients and tasked with creating a delicious dish within a limited time frame. The atmosphere was electric, with everyone bustling around, chopping vegetables, stirring sauces, and plating their creations. The chefs moved around the room, offering guidance, tips, and encouragement, fostering an environment of learning and support.

As the clock counted down, the teams put the finishing touches on their dishes, ready for the grand reveal. The Royal Navy chefs then took on the difficult job of tasting and judging each dish. They were impressed by the creativity, flavours, and presentation demonstrated by the students. It was clear that the young chefs had put their heart and soul into their cooking.

The Royal Navy Catering Team expressed their joy and admiration for the students' achievements. They praised the great attitude, enthusiasm, and teamwork displayed throughout the morning. It was a proud moment for the students to hear such positive feedback from professional chefs.

The Ready Steady Cook session concluded with the announcement of the winning teams who had created the best ‘Burger and Chips’ and ‘Chocolate Brownies and Cream’, but it was evident that everyone involved was a winner. The event not only provided an opportunity for the students to showcase their culinary talents but also taught them valuable lessons about cooperation, innovation, and the joy of cooking.

The Royal Navy Catering Team left Helston Community College with high praises for our Year 8 students, who made a lasting impression with their achievements and positive attitude. It was a morning filled with laughter, learning, and delicious food, and it will undoubtedly be remembered fondly by all who participated.
