Welcome to Post 16

We believe that Helston Community College is a unique place and has something special to offer its students; it is a truly comprehensive college offering quality education from vocational courses to 'A' levels. Our aim at post 16 is to provide an excellent education and the skills to allow students to make the transition from College to the next stage of their lives.

We are proud of our College and students for good reasons. The Sixth Form is amongst the largest in Cornwall with approximately 250 students enrolled on courses recruiting from the school's Year 11 but also from other secondary schools in the local area. In the 2016 examinations, the pass rate for A-Levels was 99.6% and students achieved the highest possible Distinction* grade in 71% of their courses.

In August 2017 many of our students excelled at the highest level in their subjects. In total, 76 of our Year 13 students achieved at least one A* grade or Distinction* grade, which is equivalent to approximately half of the year group.

Our Year 13 students regularly move on to a diverse range of higher education courses, employment, further vocational training and apprenticeships. We are very proud to see students progressing into a wide range of fields. For example, Chemical Engineering at Leeds University, English Literature and Creative Writing at Warwick University and Mathematics at Warwick. Apprenticeships are increasing in popularity, and students secure excellent placements at destinations such as Goonhilly and SERCO.

Not only do we value the academic progress of students, the College endeavours to make Post 16 an enriching experience. The College offers supportive tutors, a varied enrichment programme, and Sports Academies. The Sixth Form Students organise activities, entertainment, and social events throughout the year strengthening our community.   The Sixth Form students take an active role within the life of the College with their involvement in the Performing Arts, Sports Clubs, DofE, Community Service and various clubs.
