Post 16 Results Day - A Fabulous Year

17th August 2023

A Fabulous Year for a Fabulous Group of Students

Our Year 13 students have celebrated some fabulous exam results today. This wonderful year group have excelled with a near perfect 100% pass rate. A stunning 60% of students achieved one or more of the top grades (A/A* or equivalent) and over 90% of students applying to university have secured their first choice place (compared to 79% nationally). Our year 12 Construction students also performed exceptionally well, passing the BTEC Level 2 Construction Diploma after one year of study.

We are very proud of our students’ achievements – they have worked exceptionally hard and deserve their success. It has been a fabulous year for a fabulous group of students. As a College, we’d like to thank each of them for their dedication and wish them well in their future.

This year sees over 40students bound for university and we are thrilled to see students progressing into a wide range of fields. For example, Alex Penberthy achieved three A* grades and will be studying Veterinary Science at Cambridge, and Ella Marquis achieved four A grades and will be studying Medicine at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Meg Martin (D* D*A) will be starting her studies in Fine Art at Cardiff University. Gwen Hutchins (A*AB) is looking forward to studying English at Exeter, and Andrei Ciobanu (A*D*D) will be moving on to study English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Warwick. Josh Bretton (D*AB) will be starting his Computer Science and Mathematics at Lancaster after the summer and we are pleased that Sam Trubshaw (A*ABB) will be moving on to study Physics at the University of Southampton. Demelza Green (D*D*D) will be attending Falmouth University to study Textile Design.

Cambridge Awaits for Triple A* Alex!

Alex Penberthy achieved a clean sweep of A*s in her A Levels (Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics) and will now realise her dream of studying veterinary science at Cambridge University. Alex has excelled throughout her time at Helston, achieving the college’s prestigious AS Worrall Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement earlier this year. Alex was part of the College’s High Achievers’ Programme and we are certain her success will continue during her time in Higher Education. Well done Alex – we are so pleased for you!
