Cornwall Christmas Box Appeal

14th December 2023

Today Mrs O'Hare and Elsie Etherington collected 18 Christmas hampers from Glennie Mckinley, who is a member of the local community. Glennie started to help the Cornwall Christmas Box appeal in December 2020, but this year took on the challenge herself when they could no longer carry on collecting and distributing the hampers. Glennie puts together hampers for families in need at this festive time of year.

One of our Year 8 students Elsie Etherington found out about the Cornwall Christmas Box appeal in Dec 2020 she decided she wanted to donate a box herself. She sold some of her own toys and books to raise the money to put a hamper together.

Since then she has wanted to collect more and more so does little jobs to earn money. She wrote to a few sections at Culdrose and the local brownies group to ask if the would donate a hamper or a few items to help make up a hamper.

Since she's started she has collected over 70 hampers for vulnerable individuals and families in need. Elsie's even been involved with the big drop offs at the Salvation Army in St Ives.

We are very proud of Elsie and the hard work she has put in to create these boxes! A massive well done from Helston Community College!

A massive thank you also goes out to Glennie McKinley who has organised and collected a total of 243 hampers this year for local families in and around Helston.
