Post 16 results 2021

There was a very positive atmosphere at Helston’s Post-16 results day this Tuesday, despite the challenges and disruption caused once again by the pandemic. Following the cancellation of this summer’s examination season by the Department for Education, grades were awarded through a process of ‘teacher assessed grades’, which were checked against historical performance and approved and awarded by the examination boards.

Mr Wayne Jenkins, the College’s Headteacher said, "This year group has demonstrated high levels of determination, resilience and maturity over the duration of their A levels and other Level 3 courses. Our teachers have endeavoured to support all students throughout this difficult and uncertain time and we are pleased that we were able to give them the opportunity to demonstrate their learning through our own mini-exam series carried out under examination conditions.

“We are very proud of our students’ achievements, which have been gained through a robust assessment and moderation process. I have enjoyed working with these students over a number of years; they are a wonderful group of individuals who have overcome significant adversity and I wish them much happiness and success in the future."

Our Year 13 students are moving on to a diverse range of higher education courses, employment, further vocational training and apprenticeships. We are thrilled to see students progressing into a wide range of fields. For example, Kerensa will be studying Medicine at the University of Exeter and both Isabella and Tilly will also be studying Medicine at Cardiff. Abbie, Charlotte Luke and Jacob Power will all be starting their Geology degrees at the University of Bristol in September. Jess Edwards is looking forward to studying Criminology with Psychology at the University of Portsmouth and Alex King and Catherine Kitto will be moving on to study Chemistry at Bristol and Durham respectively. Kai Spicer will be starting his Architecture course at Falmouth University, Kells will be commencing her nursing studies at Cardiff, and Tamsyn her Law course at Greenwich. We are also delighted that Ryan Williams secured a place on a very competitive local accountancy apprenticeship at Bishop Fleming in Truro.

Mr Dave Dudley, Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Post 16, commented, “It was a real pleasure to see and congratulate the students on the results day. Their time in Post 16 had been affected by the national lockdowns but as always we are immensely proud of our students and their efforts, determination and achievements over the two years. They are a year group who will be remembered fondly and we do hope that they keep us updated with their successes at University, on apprenticeships or in their careers.
