Study Support

The transition from GCSE to Level 3 courses is often thought to be more challenging than the transition to University.  Our aim is to help the students build a bridge from GCSE to Post 16; the college team includes a Study Skills Supervisor dedicated to Post 16 who provides support in making this transition.

As part of the Sixth form provision, there is a study room dedicated to Sixth Form students which includes computers, study booths, study skill guides and HE resources.  The Study Skills Supervisor is always available in the room to help students individually or teach them in small groups.

At the start of Year 12, the Study Skills Supervisor delivers a short course called Study Skills to assist Year 12 Level 3 students with the demands of a level 3 course. The programme provides students with the skills necessary to be successful in Year 12 such as Boolean Search, Cornell Note Taking, Time Management, Mind Maps, and Smart Reading.

Students are encouraged to develop their independent learning although even the most academically able students sometimes need help.  Targeted one to one support can be organised with the Study Skills supervisor via staff or self-referral. Examples could be where students need help structuring an essay, finding a resource, or managing their time.

If there are any questions regarding this service, please contact the Post 16 office on 01326 575022.
